About The Position

The Department of Psychology at Utah State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology. This role involves teaching, mentorship, and research activities, with a particular welcome for candidates whose research aligns with existing departmental strengths such as substance use assessment and intervention, evidence-based interventions, and/or health and health disparities. The successful candidate will join the APA-accredited Combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology Ph.D. specialization and contribute to undergraduate instruction. This is a nine-month academic year position, anticipated to begin in August 2027, and is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Counseling (or Combined) Psychology, from an APA- or CPA-accredited program by the start date.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in Utah.
  • Evidence of potential for research productivity.
  • Evidence of potential for an externally funded program of research.
  • Evidence of potential to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship.

  • Research expertise that complements or extends existing strengths in Psychology and the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences: substance use assessment and intervention, evidence-based interventions, or health and health disparities.

  • Potential for interdisciplinary collaboration across programs and departments campus-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and disseminate findings.
  • Actively pursue external funding to support a program of research.
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate classes, including clinical supervision.
  • Mentor graduate students within the combined clinical/counseling psychology specialization.
  • Contribute to emerging undergraduate programming and experiential learning opportunities related to behavioral health and applied psychological skills.
  • Participate in specialization and department governance.
  • Contribute service to the department, college, university, and profession.
