About The Position

This clinical faculty position will provide expert clinical patient care in Mohs micrographic surgery and general medical dermatology, participate in translational and/or clinical research, and participate in the teaching and training of fellows, residents, and students in the specialty of Dermatology.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree and completion of a dermatology residency program.
  • Board certified in the American Board of Dermatology or board certification obtained within the department’s specified timeline.
  • Licensed as a physician in the State of Texas.
  • At least 2 years experience as Instructor or 4 years post degree with any combination of time as a clinician or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships).
  • Shows evidence of excellence in clinical care and performance.
  • Shows evidence of ability to develop an essential role in patient care services.
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Preferred completion of Mohs fellowship program.

Responsibilities

  • Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
  • Provide complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
  • Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician’s sub-specialty.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical consultative practice for patients referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Provide physician staffing for the Department of Dermatology at a level commensurate with that, which would be provided by other physicians with the same level of training and experience.
  • Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within 5 working days.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy, requiring dictating in a clear and concise manner, and visual review of documents.
  • Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty, requiring listening to and assimilating information from conferences.
  • Share clinical responsibilities with other faculty including but not limited to inpatient service, outpatient clinic and outpatient procedures and other duties as requested.
  • Participate in investigation and review of best practice initiatives and clinical and institutional effectiveness projects.
  • Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by the Chair, visually reviewing all documents pertaining to committee functions.
  • Represent the Department by participating or presenting at local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of dermato-oncology.
  • Develop research programs of scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the department, requiring the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research.
  • May necessitate instructing, through written or verbal communication, research support personnel in clinical trials implementation.
  • Identify grants and funding sources for funding of research, submit grants and protocols in accordance with rules and deadline applications, and develop budgets and analysis and complete grant and protocol application forms.
  • Act as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents and students.
  • Provide a balanced and integrated educational program for dermatology residents.
  • Attend and participate in Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
