About The Position

The McGill University Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Jewish General Hospital (JGH), is seeking applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the Assistant Professor (Clinical) rank. This is a three-year renewable appointment without tenure eligibility. The department's mission is to facilitate patient recovery through integrated care, research, and academic training. The department is recognized for its clinical excellence, teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a supportive workplace climate. It has a strong history of scientific innovation in areas such as psychotherapy, substance abuse research, psychoneuroendocrinology, psychoimmunology, genetics, epigenetics, advanced brain imaging, and computational and digital psychiatry. McGill's Department of Psychiatry is a global leader in integrating science with clinical practice and training future researchers and clinicians. It fosters a respectful, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive environment for students from various health disciplines. The Jewish General Hospital, part of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal, is a major teaching hospital affiliated with McGill University. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the JGH provides a full range of services and has active research programs in trans-cultural psychiatry, psychosocial health, psychotherapy and family therapy, sleep and aging, and first episode psychosis. The hospital's team is committed to excellent clinical care in an academic setting, utilizing an integrative approach and evidence-based treatments.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD.
  • Hold or be eligible for licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Quebec.
  • Have completed advanced Psychiatry training.
  • Demonstrate advanced capacity to engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated psychiatry department (e.g., clinical, education, and/or research).
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Possessing relevant expertise in psychotherapy modalities and/or personality disorders.
  • Clinician-scientists with MD-PhD are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Psychiatry.
  • Expected to have demonstrated experience in education and/or have an active research dossier.
  • Appointed to clinical practice at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH).
  • Expected to have a broad range of clinical abilities and aptitudes for working in external services with a particular proficiency in treating patients with mood disorders.
  • Expected to carry out clinical activities in the Mood Disorders Program of the External Psychiatry Services, as well as the personality disorders program.
  • Expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission, including research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees.
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
