About The Position

The Assistant Professor Clarinet (Tenure Track) position requires an individual with a strong commitment to inclusion and equity in music and education. The ideal candidate will be an innovative performer and teacher with expertise in contemporary music and a broad understanding of clarinet pedagogies, both canonical and contemporary. This role involves a record of accomplishment in ensemble and solo settings, with the ability to mentor students to meet professional expectations. The professor will be expected to attract, develop, and mentor forward-thinking student musicians, fostering their growth at levels appropriate to their major. A key aspect of this position is the potential for national recognition as a clarinet performer and collaborator in professional and educational spheres. The successful candidate will be a motivated and invested faculty member dedicated to prioritizing student learning within the university's mission. This includes performing and teaching a diverse range of music, demonstrating the ability to attract, retain, and inspire a diverse student body, and developing relevant 21st-century musical skills. The role also encompasses ensemble musicianship, solo performance, coaching, and preparing sections. Experience in developing entrepreneurial musical concepts for studio teaching, performance, and class settings is valued, as is sensitivity in working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion through culturally responsive practices.

Requirements

  • Earned MM in Music or the professional equivalent.
  • Proven expertise as an innovative performer and teacher.
  • Conversant with contemporary music.
  • Skilled in a range of canonical and contemporary clarinet pedagogies.
  • Record of accomplishment in ensemble and solo settings.
  • Ability to teach students to model professional expectations.
  • Ability to attract, develop and mentor forward-thinking student musicians.
  • Potential for increasingly national reach as a clarinet performer and collaborator.
  • Willingness and ability to be part of a highly motivated and invested faculty.
  • Performing and pedagogical experience with a range of music that includes, but is not limited to, canonical works.
  • Proven evidence of the ability to attract, retain, and inspire diverse students.
  • Ability to develop, mentor, and teach forward-thinking and relevant 21st-century musicians.
  • Demonstrated ability as a performer and collaborator as an ensemble musician in varied settings, as a soloist.
  • Experience in coaching and preparing sections in ensemble settings.
