Requirements

  • Master’s degree in chemistry OR Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR the equivalent.
  • Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) or more years community college teaching experience
  • One (1) or more years of demonstrated knowledge of general and organic chemistry and the ability to effectively communicate these concepts to community college STEM students.
  • One (1) or more years demonstrated experience collaborating with colleagues and contributing to programs that support teaching, learning, and service for a diverse student population.
  • One (1) or more years demonstrated experience using multiple teaching methods to support students with diverse learning styles, as evidenced by course syllabi, lesson plans, or student feedback.
  • One (1) or more years demonstrated experience designing and delivering effective instruction in on-campus, hybrid, and AI-enhanced learning environments, using appropriate technologies and instructional practices to support student success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in Chemistry courses, including lectures and laboratories in introductory and general chemistry, in accordance with approved course outlines and departmental standards.
  • Incorporate equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive teaching practices that promote the success of all students.
  • Collaborate with faculty colleagues on curriculum development, program review, and the design of laboratory experiences.
  • Assess and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours to support and advise students.
  • Actively participate in departmental, divisional, and college governance, including committee service and other forms of shared governance.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including training in multiple instructional modalities (online, hybrid, in-person).
  • Contribute to fostering an inclusive, collegial, and student-centered campus environment.
