Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Biology
About The Position
The University of St. Thomas's Biology Department in the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution, to begin in September 2027. This role is ideal for candidates who integrate genetics and ecology, such as in population genetics, conservation genetics, or molecular ecology. The position emphasizes the teacher-scholar model, requiring the candidate to teach undergraduate biology courses at both introductory and upper-division levels. Specific courses may include BIOL 207 Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution; BIOL 209 Biology of Sustainability; a 300-level course in the candidate's expertise; and a 400-level senior capstone course. A commitment to inclusive classroom practices that support diverse students is essential. The teaching load is six, four-credit courses annually, with two courses reallocated for undergraduate research mentorship. The successful candidate will also establish a strong research program, competitive for external funding, that actively involves undergraduates of all experience levels and backgrounds. Research support includes start-up funds and laboratory/computing space. Additionally, the role involves advising undergraduate biology majors and contributing service to the department, college, and university.
Requirements
- PhD (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Biology or related field, or ABD candidates nearing completion of the PhD.
- Demonstrate research expertise in Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution.
