About The Position

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month position for an Assistant Professor of African American History in the Department of History. Preferred start date August 2027. Towson University is one of the nation’s top 100 public universities, located north of Baltimore, and enrolls over 19,000 students. Requirements

  • PhD in History or related fields required.
  • ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the ‘Instructor’ rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2028.
  • Research specialization in African American History from the Colonial Era to 1900.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching in applicant’s field of specialization.
  • Demonstrated scholarship and active research agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and develop upper- and lower-level courses in African American History and other areas of specialization.
  • Contribute to the department's transition to research-intensive R2 status.
