About The Position

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Community-based primary care and academic medicine. This full-time clinical role spans both community and academic settings. The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health has established partnerships with multiple Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in West Philadelphia, providing physician services with the goal of reducing health care disparities and improving access to care for underserved communities. The Department is expanding its physician presence at an existing FQHC partner location and seeks a motivated candidate who is committed to practicing in this setting. This is a unique hybrid position that combines community-based primary care at an FQHC with clinical and teaching responsibilities in an academic Family Medicine setting. The ideal candidate will bring a deep commitment to health equity and be energized by the opportunity to serve patients in low-resource environments while contributing to the education of the next generation of family physicians.

Requirements

• M.D. or equivalent degree.
• Board Certified in Family Medicine.

Nice To Haves

• Fellowship training or a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ).
• Experience with comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, including prenatal care services.
• Experience working in an FQHC, community health center, or comparable setting.
• Experience caring for patients from disadvantaged or low-resource backgrounds, with a genuine motivation to practice in an FQHC environment.
• Experience with comprehensive primary care across the lifespan, including prenatal care.
• A passion for teaching Family Medicine residents and medical students.
• A strong, demonstrated commitment to addressing health disparities in marginalized and underserved communities.

Responsibilities

• Teaching responsibilities may include participation in the education of Family Medicine residents and medical students.
• Supervision and precepting of learners in both community and academic settings.
• Engagement with interdisciplinary learner teams across clinical environments.
• Clinical responsibilities may include partial clinical effort in outpatient primary care at an FQHC or community health center.
• Additional non-continuity clinical work in an academic Family Medicine setting, which may include outpatient acute care and precepting and/or attending on the Family Medicine inpatient teaching service.
• Candidates interested in inpatient hospital medicine have the opportunity to incorporate this into their clinical effort, though it is not a required component of the position.
