About The Position

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Assists the Produce Department Manager in presenting the freshest, most innovative, and best quality products at a competitive retail price. This role is accountable to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and supervises Produce Clerks.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials.
  • Ability to copy data from one record to another.
  • Ability to interview to obtain basic information.
  • Ability to guide people and provide basic direction.
  • High school or equivalent experience.
  • Over one year of similar or related experience.
  • Must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Access to confidential information including pricing and sales.
  • Daily contact with customers, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
  • Occasional contact with federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies for inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience.
  • Learns and uses customers' names whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items, loading/unloading, and noting suggestions.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service.
  • Ensures department standards are met.
  • Coordinates and troubleshoots food operations with the salad bar/juice bar.
  • Reviews product freshness, rotates and replenishes stock.
  • Monitors refrigeration temperatures.
  • Sets and resets sales areas to promote products.
  • Stays current on produce-related issues (droughts, price jumps, weather, etc.).
  • Prices product and is aware of department pricing philosophy.
  • Handles customer and vendor issues daily.
  • Assists with inventory.
  • Understands all produce items and their uses.
  • Unloads product, checks it in, verifies accuracy, and may log invoices.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures, ensuring a clean work area and adhering to hygiene and dress guidelines.
  • Adheres to company policies and store guidelines.
  • Reports to work on time and when scheduled.
  • Assumes management duties in the absence of the Department Manager.
  • Orders product at the Produce Manager's discretion.
  • Assists with the fruit and holiday basket program.
  • Stocks aisles, evaluates product amounts, breaks down pallets, re-stacks cooler, and transports product.
  • Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
  • Instructs, assigns, reviews, and plans the work of others.
  • Maintains standards, coordinates activities, and allocates personnel.
