About The Position

Under the general supervision of the site principal, the assistant principal assumes administrative responsibility and instructional leadership for the public school assigned, including the discipline of students and the planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of the educational program of the school.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education
  • Possess or qualify to possess a valid New Mexico Educational Administrative License.
  • Nine years certified experience in a school system, to include a minimum of seven years teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the performance of school employees and develop professional development plans or job improvement plans to assist school employees to improve.
  • Take disciplinary action against school employees.
  • Implement district attendance policy at the site level.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal to implement policies of the local school board.
  • Enforce all laws and rules applicable to the school, district, or educational program of the state agency.
  • Exercise supervision over students on property belonging to the public school.
  • Furnish all reports as required.
  • Comply with state approved Code of Ethics of the educational profession.
  • Positively impacts and influences staff.
  • Engages team leaders.
  • Holds staff accountable for school performance.
  • Must have commitment to student learning.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinker.
  • Knowledge of and implementation of federal, state and district 504 and SpEd related policies and regulations.

  • Visionary leadership - The visionary leader promotes the success of all students including students with disabilities and students who are culturally and linguistically diverse by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation and stewardship of learning that is shared and supported by the learning community.

  • Instructional leadership - The instructional leader promotes the success of all students including students with disabilities and students who are culturally and linguistically diverse by maintaining a positive school culture, ensuring a successful instructional program, applying best practice to student learning, and designing comprehensive professional growth plans for staff.
  • Facilitates the Turnaround Principles and the 90-Day Planning process that fosters change in instructional practices driven by data.
  • Multicultural leadership - The multicultural leader promotes the success of all students by addressing the needs of multicultural, multilingual diverse populations.
  • Leadership in community relations - The leader in community relations has the knowledge and ability to promote the success of all students including students with disabilities and students who are culturally and linguistically diverse by collaborating with families and other community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
  • Political leadership - The political leader has the knowledge and ability to promote the success of all students including students with disabilities and students who are culturally and linguistically diverse through their understanding of the political, economic, legal, and social climate that exists in school settings.
  • Legal and fiscal leadership - The legal and fiscal leader promotes the success of all students including students with disabilities and students who are culturally and linguistically diverse by managing the organization, operations, and resources within a legally sound framework to promote a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
