About The Position

The Elementary School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, responsible for fostering a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous environment where all students can thrive. This leader builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning by supporting high-quality instruction aligned to North Carolina Standards, promoting a positive school culture, and ensuring the academic and social-emotional growth of every child. The principal collaborates with staff, families, and the community to create a shared vision focused on student success, continuous improvement, and equity. This position supports the mission of Macon County Schools by ensuring effective teaching and learning practices and a strong focus on foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and whole-child development.

Requirements

  • Educational Leadership Certification as required by the State of North Carolina
  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience required
  • Previous school administrator experience (principal or assistant principal) required
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and improve student outcomes
  • Knowledge of elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community
  • Completion of required background check and district-required trainings

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned to North Carolina Standards
  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and student-centered school culture
  • Supervise and evaluate instructional staff in accordance with district and state guidelines
  • Use data to monitor student progress and guide instructional decision-making
  • Support and oversee MTSS processes and interventions for student success
  • Facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and job-embedded professional development
  • Promote effective instructional practices, including differentiation and use of technology
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the School Improvement Plan
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with all school, district, state, and federal policies and regulations
  • Manage school operations including scheduling, budgeting, discipline, and safety procedures
  • Supervise school activities and events, including extracurricular programs as needed
  • Foster family engagement and community partnerships
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
