About The Position

The Assistant Principal for Academics is responsible for collaborating with the Principal in the overall implementation of the school’s academic programs. The Assistant Principal oversees the implementation of the AOB Curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational standards and the desired outcomes of the Archdiocesan curriculum. They maintain and review student academic records and ensure that effective communication and partnerships are fostered with parents and students regarding academic progress and support. The Assistant Principal works directly with faculty to promote and support exceptional instructional practices and communicates regularly with the administration team and teachers on all matters, especially those related to academic policies, teacher supervision, and parental concerns. The Assistant Principal serves as a visible leader, collaborative partner, and pastoral presence for students, staff, and families.

Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic who is fully able to model Christian values, adhere to the teachings of the Church, and actively participate in the sacramental life of the Church
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid Maryland teaching certification required
  • Prior teaching experience required
  • Strong background in classroom management and instruction
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate lessons for grades PK–8
  • Commitment to Catholic education and willingness to support the mission of the Church
  • Calm, consistent, and fair approach to faculty training and support

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the review of lesson plans and learning management systems; provide feedback and support for probationary teachers and others as requested
  • Assist with formal and informal observations of classroom and special area teachers
  • Organize and implement orientation programs for new teachers and instructional assistants
  • Maintain a mentoring program for new and probationary teachers
  • Demonstrate, model, and coach faculty in developing activities and strategies for the continuous improvement of instruction
  • Coordinate and regularly attend grade-level and departmental planning meetings
  • Collaborate with the Principal to develop teacher evaluation goals
  • Organize, maintain, and monitor a sequential curriculum program aligned with the school’s educational philosophy
  • Coordinate MAP testing dates and schedules
  • Coordinate, supervise, and design monthly professional development sessions in partnership with professional growth organization trainers
  • Involve relevant faculty and oversee the selection of textbooks and instructional resources
  • Provide faculty and staff with relevant curriculum updates
  • Coordinate end-of-year math placement testing with the Director of Admissions, Academic Advisor, and associated teaching teams
  • Serve as the Title I, II, and IV liaison and site supervisor
  • Facilitate professional growth through catechist training experiences in accordance with Archdiocese of Baltimore guidelines
  • Collaborate with the Principal on Extended Classroom Experiences
  • Attend all faculty meetings and relevant evening and weekend school events for grades PK–8
  • Perform additional duties, on a temporary or permanent basis, as assigned by the Principal
