About The Position

The Assistant Principal, reporting to the Principal, is responsible for instructional leadership, faculty and staff management, student personnel management, school business and resources management, public relations, and the management of support services, co-curricular activities, and athletic programs. This role requires strong personal competencies in communication, relationship building, problem-solving, and time management, all while ensuring compliance with legal structures and board policies. A key aspect of the role involves fostering a positive school climate and supporting the professional development of staff and the well-being of students. State law mandates a criminal history background check and a child abuse/neglect check as conditions of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the instructional program to prioritize teaching and learning and drive school improvement.
  • Develop effective planning, communication, and problem-solving structures.
  • Provide opportunities for faculty and staff growth and success.
  • Assist in managing faculty and staff to utilize talent effectively and create a healthy school climate.
  • Participate in the faculty selection process to identify competent candidates.
  • Observe and evaluate certified employees' performance using the Hunter Model of Effective Teaching.
  • Write prescriptions for improvement of performance when necessary.
  • Conduct Summative Evaluations within state and local Board Policies.
  • Help develop appropriate faculty and staff personnel job expectations, job descriptions, and regulations.
  • Develop a positive school climate by involving faculty and staff in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Build trust, respect, cohesiveness, and high morale among staff.
  • Accurately complete and forward personnel records.
  • Ensure student conduct, attendance, and personal problems are handled effectively and positively.
  • Provide an effective support system for students with learning and/or behavior problems.
  • Promote optimum student attendance through systematic programs to reduce absenteeism.
  • Manage student data through an accountable, confidential, and efficient record-keeping system.
  • Utilize the services of the Director of Pupil Personnel for student services and special needs.
  • Assist in operating the school efficiently and cost-effectively by planning and managing financial and material resources.
  • Adhere to proper accounting procedures for purchase orders and bookkeeping.
  • Manage the textbook program, including selection, ordering, inventory, and accountability.
  • Assist in conducting a public relations program to build positive support from the school community.
  • Communicate effectively with intended audiences, demonstrating competent writing and editing skills.
  • Receive and respond to the needs and concerns of various publics in a reasonable and fair manner.
  • Supervise support services, co-curricular activities, and athletic programs.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the school plant and grounds to ensure they are in good repair, safe, clean, and attractive.
  • Address in-school vandalism appropriately.
  • Supervise custodians.
  • Assist in supervising food services/cafeteria and transportation.
  • Coordinate the development and conduct of co-curricular and athletic programs.
  • Demonstrate positive personal relationships with staff, students, parents, and central office personnel.
  • Assess and be sensitive to the thoughts, feelings, and actions of others.
  • Identify and leverage strengths of individual staff members.
  • Maintain a supportive group climate.
  • Convey information effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be perceived as an effective listener.
