About The Position

Responsible for assisting the principal to provide the cultural and administrative leadership necessary for addressing student safety and well-being, social-emotional learning, school discipline, and overall school effectiveness to create a strong culture for learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a PK-12 setting
  • Thorough knowledge of classroom management, school culture, social-emotional learning programs, district policies, and procedures
  • Ability to receive, internalize, and implement feedback from multiple sources
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to use computer including software, the database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate reports.
  • Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner
  • Investigates student complaints and grievances.
  • Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations.
  • Investigate, adjudicate, and monitor minor infractions of the school code in the form of progressive discipline such as detentions, classroom referrals, Saturday detention, and in-school suspension.
  • Maintains disciplinary records required by policy, regulation, law, or good practice.
  • Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws; receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serves on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned.
  • Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities; instructs students on inappropriate behavior; disciplines students in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.
  • Develops plans for emergency situations in collaboration with other administrators, staff, and public safety agencies; direct the work of yard duty staff and crossing guards; plan and debriefs emergency drills; update the school safety plan.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of district, county, state, and federal records and reports; directs preparation of records and reports by staff.
  • Participates in administrative meetings and training to improve administrative skills; maintains current knowledge of the district’s adopted curriculum.
  • Provides and maintains appropriate communication with family and community, including law enforcement agencies and the judicial systems.
  • Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy
  • Serves as liaison between school and home
  • Serves as liaison between the school and juvenile court
  • Represents the school system at community meetings and conferences
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of the campus's emergency evacuation and preparedness plan
  • Mentor and council at-risk students and students in need of additional staff support
  • Develops guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment at the assigned school
  • Establishes clear expectations, systems, and routines for behaviors, including social and emotional supports
  • Leads strategies to proactively provide and coordinate student support services
  • Supervises teacher classroom management.
  • Trains staff on student code of conduct and implementation of discipline.
  • Develops and implement teacher orientations.
  • Maintains records of disciplinary actions taken to ensure that the student code of conduct is administered properly.
  • Communicates with parents and key stakeholders regarding student discipline and safety.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly school environment.
  • Monitors the school ground actively for safety checks.
  • Monitors student attendance and truancy, recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities
  • Assists in recruiting, selecting, and retaining highly effective teachers and staff
  • Establishes and implements a plan for Well-being learning across the school aligned with DOVE priorities
  • Leads Character School application and designation process at the state and national level
  • Establishes a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and community
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parental involvement
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Models personal commitment to developing self and others
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
