About The Position

The Assistant Principal of Student Support (APSS) is a vital member of the school leadership team, specifically charged with driving academic and cultural outcomes within the KIPP Texas Multilingual Program Models and ensuring multilingual learner supports are embedded within the school’s MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports). You will ensure that students achieve high levels of academic success - while fostering a joyful, inclusive environment. Through coaching, supervision of multilingual strategies, and community engagement, you will prepare emergent bilingual students for success in college, career, and beyond.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (required)
  • Primary - Texas Bilingual Teacher Certification (required)
  • Secondary - Texas ESL Teacher Certification (required)
  • 2 years of teaching experience (required)
  • 1 year teacher leader experience with a record of results managing and coaching teachers and/or teacher leaders to improved academic and culture outcomes for students (e.g. content lead, grade level lead, etc.) (required)
  • Strong record of ensuring students achieve academic success in program language (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in education partnering with historically underserved communities and communities of color (preferred)
  • Previous school-level leadership experience (preferred)
  • Fluency in both program languages (strongly preferred for this specific role).

Responsibilities

  • Drive the rigorous implementation of KIPP Texas’ multilingual program models, ensuring fidelity to program structures and language allocation.
  • Coach program teachers on effective implementation of language instructional strategies, providing real-time feedback and regular coaching cycles.
  • Collaborate with other Assistant Principals of Instruction (APIs) to design and deliver professional development on content-based language instruction to support all emergent bilingual students.
  • Lead the internalization of standards-aligned curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of diverse learners in both languages of instruction.
  • Integrate language development strategies within Tier 1 core instruction and intervention planning through MTSS structures.
  • Provide small group language interventions and support for beginner and newcomer students.
  • Embed language development supports within Tier 1 instruction through alignment of the 80/20 model and content-based language instruction.
  • Design and implement MTSS support for all learners across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3.
  • Partner with interventionists and instructional leaders to align academic interventions with language development needs.
  • Monitor student progress within campus MTSS data cycles and adjust supports accordingly.
  • Ensure all learner needs are addressed within campus instructional planning and problem-solving structures.
  • Serve as the campus lead for TELPAS coordination, training, and administration while ensuring TELPAS data informs MTSS supports and instructional planning.
  • Coordinate with the Regional LPAC facilitator to ensure high-quality language testing (preLAS, LasLinks, IOWA, etc.).
  • Monitor and analyze student language development progress to identify gaps and implement data-driven interventions.
  • Lead the annual goal-setting process for assigned grade levels, focusing on regional benchmarks such as mCLASS and STAAR performance.
  • Organize and lead events specifically for parents, families, and community members to support the success of emergent bilingual students through Title 3.
  • Manage school-wide culture systems and resolve disciplinary situations through a restorative lens aligned with the KTX code of conduct.
  • Champion KIPP Texas core values, building a "Team and Family" dedicated to academic success and joy.
  • Support the School Leader in implementing a school-wide vision and mobilizing teachers to achieve collective goals.
  • Operationalize academic and student culture routines and respond to concerns from staff, students, and families.
