The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers’ portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems. Aerospace’s Joint and Multi-Domain Subdivision supports a broad sponsor landscape, extending Aerospace’s space-based technical expertise to operational end users. With projects ranging from state of the art research and concept development, to prototyping, cutting-edge laboratory environments, fully integrated operational capabilities, and robust analytics and decision support tools, Aerospace’s support to the military Services, Combatant Commands, and other government agencies helps to enable strategic decisions, explore new operational concepts, and drive toward integrated, multi-domain capabilities. As the Assistant Principal Director in the Joint and Multi-Domain Subdivision, you’ll play a pivotal role in expanding Aerospace’s contribution and influence in the multi-domain community, fostering end user integration of space-based capabilities. In this role, you will lead and provide strategic direction for the Multi-Domain C5ISRT Programs portfolio, currently including the following customers: Department of Air Force Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (DAF PAE C3BM) Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) Headquarters Air Force, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (AF/A2) And multiple Department of Navy C5ISRT efforts While this is a key management position within Aerospace, you will also be required to provide technical contributions that strategically focus on integrating space-based and end user capabilities; coordinating across Aerospace program office and ETG teams; and building strong relationships with C3BM program offices and teams, Joint and IC stakeholders, and other FFRDC and UARC partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or closely related technical field
  • 15 or more years of progressive technical and leadership experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering in a program oversight environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including team building/development, establishing trust, conflict resolution, mentorship, and collaboration.
  • Experience leading and contributing to technical analyses, networking and architecture trades, requirements development, and mission engineering assessments
  • Proven ability to work effectively with government acquisition programs and senior customers (flag or SES level)
  • Proven ability to network and collaborate with contractors, other government agencies, and internal organizations (e.g., Aerospace program offices and ETG) to address issues and provide the customer with the best available technical and programmatic analyses
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government.
  • U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to travel, as required, up to 25% of the time (1 week per month)

  • Previous experience supporting the Department of Air Force and additional Joint and Multi-Domain customers
  • In-depth knowledge of roles played by the military services; the combatant commands; the U.S. Space Force; the Office of the Secretary of War; the Office of the Director of National Intelligence; the National Reconnaissance Office; the Joint Staff; and other government organizations in development and operations of the national security space enterprise.
  • Experience in Command and Control, Battle Management, SATCOM, PNT, ISR, and cyber

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of Aerospace’s Multi-Domain C5ISRT Programs, including direct management of program office staff, oversight and accountability of PTS execution and budget management, and direct technical contribution to integrate across the C3BM enterprise.
  • Serve as the primary focal point for the DAF PAE C3BM government customer, establishing a long-term working relationship with PAE leadership; the Architecture & Systems Engineering (ASE) Office; and Program Integration, Cross-cutting, and program execution teams.
  • Establish trusted relationships with key senior leaders within the Multi-Domain C5ISRT portfolio.
  • Establish and maintain Aerospace’s positive reputation with new and existing customers as a problem solver and thought leader.
  • Deliver exceptional decision support capabilities and products to our government customers.
  • Lead and support cross-corporation and cross-organizational teams to execute studies and analysis activities of national significance.
  • Foster cooperation and coordination across the space enterprise to help assure enterprise mission success.
  • Provide strategic leadership and support for planning and implementation of policy, acquisition, and requirements initiatives, developing architectural alternatives, assessing system budgets and schedules, and prioritizing investments.
  • Drive and facilitate cross-customer coordination via proactive engagement with other teams within Aerospace (such as those supporting USINDOPACOM, USSF, NRO, and other key customer organizations)
  • Demonstrate leadership for team members, set expectations and direction, and provide feedback and mentoring.
