About The Position

The Beaumont Emergency Hospital Assistant Patient Access Manager is responsible for facilitating patient registration and admissions procedures. This role provides direct supervision to Patient Access Specialists, ensuring adequate coverage of the registration desk, monitoring front desk quality, and overseeing new employee orientation and ongoing staff training. The position involves creating and adhering to established processes to ensure high-quality service for patients and accuracy of information affecting pre and post-visit services.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 plus years of experience in a clinical setting with similar duties
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Keyboarding/typing and 10-key touch skills
  • CPR/BLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the registration/admissions procedures for the facilities patients.
  • Provides direct supervision to Patient Access Specialists.
  • Responsible for scheduling and ensuring adequate coverage of the registration desk.
  • Monitors the front desk quality.
  • Oversees orientation of new employees and ongoing staff training.
  • Responsible for the creation of and adherence to established processes.
  • Ensures high quality service for patients and accuracy of information affecting both pre and post visit services.
  • Ensures proper utilization of software and offers guidance to employees related to point-of-service collections.
  • Creates and maintains front desk procedures.
  • Responsible for on-going staff education.
  • Ensures the highest level of accuracy and completeness of daily operations.
  • Ensures a high level of quality services provided to patients.
  • Obtains the required patient co-pay in a respectful and dignified manner.
  • Ensures operational readiness of the front desk.
  • Greets all patients, visitors, and vendors in a welcoming manner.
  • Treats all patients, visitors, other business contacts and staff members professionally and with respect.
  • Initiates the minimal guest co-pay for all patients in accordance with established guidelines on the patient's insurance plans or collects payment for services in accordance with company policy.
  • Places cash in a secure location as directed by policy when cash payments are received.
  • Scans documents into the electronic health record (EHR) as directed.
  • Performs daily tasks to ensure the appropriate and efficient operation of the front desk, including accurately creating patient registration records, labels, and ensuring the completion of all registration paperwork.
  • Exercises sound judgment and applies effective written and oral communication techniques with all business contacts.
  • Answers phone calls timely and professionally.
  • May be required to route phone calls accurately throughout the facility.
  • Verifies various types of insurance and co-pays in accordance with company policies.
  • Collects co-pays in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine measures to ensure compliance relative to issues applicable to the preservation, accuracy, and completeness of all patient charts.
  • Reconciles financial logs and cash ledger.
  • Makes deposits of cash as needed and ensures that the cash box does not exceed established cash limits.
  • Makes appropriate notations of transactions on the financial logs.
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of daily patient financial logs.
  • Makes corrections of errors and missing information.
  • Compiles data or information as requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient-related issues and medical records as outlined by HIPAA and company policy.
  • Maintains confidentiality of company and employee information as outlined in company policies.
  • Complies with attendance standards and routinely attends required staff meetings.
  • Able to work various shifts with or without notice.
  • Remains flexible relative to changing staffing patterns and participates in temporary assignments.
  • May be required to work outside traditional work hours to meet the overall demands of this job.
  • Personally covers shifts as needed with limited notice.
  • Prioritizes work assignments and works with limited supervision.
  • Addresses various issues related to administration, registration, insurance verification/processes for patients, physicals, injuries, illnesses, and workers compensation.
  • Understands and articulates the differences between co-pays, deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses, and co-insurance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
