About The Position

This is a part-time faculty/clinical educator position for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Pathology. The role involves teaching histology and pathology to preclinical medical students within the TRAILS curriculum and providing didactic instruction to pathology residents in areas of expertise. The position is a 20% effort, with a flexible schedule determined collaboratively based on departmental needs and candidate availability. Teaching typically includes regularly scheduled educational sessions, with flexibility possible within limits to accommodate the candidate's professional commitments.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent medical degree.
  • Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to medical education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with medical students, residents, faculty, and clinical colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • On-going active regular pathology practice with integrated clinical teaching of residents and medical students.
  • Previous experience teaching medical students and/or pathology residents.
  • Interest in mentoring residents and medical students pursuing careers in pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pathology and histology instruction to medical students in a manner consistent with the requirements of the TRAILS curriculum.
  • Teach fundamental concepts in gross and microscopic pathology, mechanisms of disease, and clinicopathologic correlation.
  • Facilitate case-based and active-learning experiences that integrate pathology with clinical medicine.
  • Serve as a mentor and educational resource for medical students interested in pathology.
  • Participate in student assessment, including developing the daily quiz, weekly checkpoint, and other exam questions as required by the particular course.
  • Participate in grading and evaluation of student performance, as appropriate.
  • Work in collaboration with Academic Affairs and the Department of Medical Education as needed.
  • Teach AP/CP pathology residents using didactic sessions, case conferences, unknown conferences, and other educational activities.
  • Teach residents to develop appropriate diagnostic reasoning, morphologic interpretation, differential diagnoses, and clinicopathologic correlation.
  • Support resident preparation for AP/CP board examinations.
  • Serve as an approachable faculty mentor and role model for residents.
  • Participate in departmental and educational program activities.
  • Participate in educational quality-improvement initiatives and review of learner feedback.
  • Remain current in relevant developments in pathology, medical education, and diagnostic practice.
  • Participate in faculty development activities as appropriate.
  • Contribute to scholarly activity or educational projects.
