About The Position

The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS) at Louisiana State University invites applications for a faculty position specializing in wetland plant science at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose work focuses on wetland plant ecology or physiology and uses any combination of field methods, laboratory experiments, remote sensing, greenhouse studies, and modeling. The successful candidate will develop an externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in support of the department’s coastal science program. The position is part of a four-faculty multi-position hire within DOCS, with an expected start in Fall 2027. Responsibilities also include student advising and committee service, publishing research, and providing service and advice to the university, professional organizations, and local, state, and federal agencies. DOCS is part of LSU’s College of the Coast & Environment and supports research and education across biological, physical, chemical, geological, fisheries, meteorology, and wetland biogeochemistry programs. The department has research laboratories, supercomputing resources, field support services, and access to a shared marine laboratory at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium in Cocodrie.

Requirements

PhD in a relevant field by the start of the appointment.
Primary scholarly focus in wetland plant science.
Postdoctoral research experience.
Potential to secure external research funding.
Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration.
For Assistant Professor consideration: experience teaching college-level science courses as a teaching assistant or instructor of record.
Demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed research.
For Associate Professor consideration: prior faculty appointment at the associate professor rank, or at least 6 years in a prior assistant professor appointment, or 6 years in a professional research-based position with oversight as a Principal Investigator of an independent research program.

Responsibilities

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses; advise students; and serve on student thesis committees (50% of the position).
Develop and maintain a rigorous, externally funded, independent research program; mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers; and publish journal articles, reports, books, conference proceedings, and other scholarly work (40%).
Provide service and advice to the university, professional organizations, and local, state, and federal agencies (10%).
