About The Position

Sul Ross State University seeks a tenure-track field-based archaeologist whose research employs traditional and emerging techniques. The successful candidate will have a regional specialization in the Big Bend region or the greater US Southwest. They will contribute to the mission of the Center for Big Bend Studies (CBBS) by developing a sustained, place-based research program grounded in field-based archaeology and collaborative regional scholarship. The faculty member will support the BA and MA programs in Anthropology through high-quality teaching, mentorship, field-based training, and supervising graduate students. This is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment with a 2-2 teaching load (two courses per semester).

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology with a specialization in archaeology.
  • Regional specialization in the Big Bend region or the greater US Southwest.
  • Experience employing traditional and emerging archaeological techniques.
  • Ability to develop a sustained, place-based research program.
  • Experience in field-based archaeology.
  • Record of publication in peer-reviewed sources.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising students.
  • Experience leading and supervising summer field schools.
  • Willingness to participate in Center and departmental service.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active research program in field-based archaeology with a sustained record of publication in peer-reviewed sources.

  • Participate in Center and departmental service.
