About The Position

The Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech is seeking an open-rank faculty member to join their team. The position focuses on critical, strategic, and economically important elements and mineral resources in the lithosphere. Areas of interest include geochemistry, mineralogy, ore-forming processes, fluid-rock interactions, and the occurrences and structural controls of critical elements and minerals. The role involves research using laboratory, experimental, field, computational, and data-intensive approaches, potentially spanning geoscience, engineering, materials science, and environmental science. Candidates may utilize methods such as mineralogical and geochemical characterization, experimental petrology, numerical modeling, geospatial analysis, automated mineralogy, and machine learning. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's strengths in mineralogy, geochemistry, fluids, and petrology, and will be part of a period of significant growth in critical mineral and subsurface sciences at Virginia Tech. The role requires developing an externally funded research program, contributing to both fundamental and applied research, and engaging in undergraduate and graduate education. The appointment level (assistant, associate, or full professor) will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements
