The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Comparative Ophthalmology. This is an 11-month appointment with an anticipated start date in Spring 2027. The successful candidate will devote up to 40% of their time to instruction, consultation, and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). The remaining time will support scholarship and research, integrative classroom and laboratory teaching, and academic service. Clinical duties will be shared among three board-certified ophthalmologists. The Ophthalmology Service evaluates approximately 1,100 small-animal and 150 large-animal cases annually, and clinicians consult on approximately 300–400 additional hospital cases per year. Teleconsultation is available for after-hours cases. The position includes primary medical and surgical case management, instruction of veterinary students, and mentorship of interns and residents. The successful candidate will actively supervise house officers and participate in resident training, including rounds, journal club, and back-up support. Applicants must be committed to a team-centered environment, communicate effectively with animal caregivers and academic and hospital colleagues, and hold themselves and colleagues accountable to the VMBS code of professional conduct. Research opportunities are available throughout the college and university. Laboratory space is available as needed, and the college has qualified graduate students seeking biomedical sciences degrees, animal-care facilities for a variety of research animals, and dedicated areas for animal research. A generous start-up package will be available based on the candidate’s track record and needs. A new small-animal hospital is scheduled to open in the next year and will include ophthalmology clinical space and an ophthalmology operating-room suite. The VMTH has capable personnel and modern technology, including ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic equipment, dedicated small- and large-animal operating rooms, operating microscopes, cataract surgery units, laser systems, advanced imaging, an interventional radiology service, and in-house pharmacists with compounding capability. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with more than 60 departmental faculty members and a group of more than 50 rotating interns and residents in other medical and surgical disciplines. Bryan and College Station have a combined population of approximately 300,000 and offer cultural and recreational opportunities, excellent schools, and a relatively low cost of living.
