About The Position

The McGill University Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a clinician-scientist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH. The Division of General Pediatrics currently has approximately 35 full time and 10 associate members working in diverse areas including: Developmental pediatrics, Inpatient pediatrics, Newborn medicine, Complex care, Medical day hospital, Northern & Indigenous child health, and others. In addition to full-service tertiary care, the Division’s members have proven academic strengths in multiple fields – medical education, epidemiology, health services and quality improvement research, and knowledge translation. The successful candidate will become a member of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), joining one of the eight active research programs at the RI-MUHC. Fundamental scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Translational Biology, while clinical scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation. Clinician-scientists are expected to commit 50%-75% of their time to research.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree (or equivalent).
  • Have postgraduate clinical training in pediatrics.
  • Have completed specialty training in General Pediatrics with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent).
  • Have completed at least two years of research training in addition to their clinical training.
  • Hold, or be eligible for, licensure to practice medicine from the Collège des médecins du Québec.
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
  • Be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Be willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
  • Require English communication both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Having a postgraduate degree (e.g., MSc or PhD) will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated success at obtaining research grants will also be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to coverage of at least 2 of the service streams in the division and to on call duties.
  • Participate in all clinical and administrative division meetings.
  • Provide clinical supervision of medical students and residents in one or more divisional programs.
  • Apply for salary support from the FRQS and eventually obtain external operating grants for their research.
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
