About The Position

This position is part of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), which represents The University of Tennessee, a statewide system of public higher education. Primary duties of this position include representing the University and its employees in all phases of employment, contract, construction, tort, and other civil litigation (including discovery, motions, trial, and appeal), and representing the University in administrative proceedings. The position is located in Knoxville, Tennessee, but responsibilities of the position will involve service and travel to all campuses and institutes in the University system. The University of Tennessee System is the state’s oldest higher education institution and preeminent public university. The UT System is comprised of campuses at Knoxville, Chattanooga, Pulaski and Martin; the Health Science Center at Memphis; and the statewide Institute of Agriculture and Institute for Public Service. With a presence in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties and through the combined force of education, research and outreach, the University serves students, business and industry, schools, governments, organizations and residents statewide.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Tennessee Bar or eligibility for admission
  • Experience in civil litigation
  • Experience in employment law
  • Experience in contract law
  • Experience in construction law
  • Experience in tort law
  • Experience in administrative proceedings
