About The Position

Shady Grove Medical Center is seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager for its Pediatric Emergency Department. The role supports Adventist HealthCare’s mission to extend God’s care through physical, mental, and spiritual healing. The Assistant Nurse Manager assures the delivery of high-quality clinical services in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards, implements daily unit operations and adjusts resources to patient needs, and assists the department Manager with overall operations, personnel, goals, and budgets. The position collaborates with physicians and the broader healthcare team to provide age-appropriate patient care; supports teamwork and evidence-based standards; and promotes safe, patient-centered care, positive customer service, and professional development of staff. This is a full-time night position, typically scheduled 6:45 p.m.–7:15 a.m. for three shifts per week, with every third weekend and rotating holidays.

Requirements

Degree in nursing (Associate or Baccalaureate).
Current Maryland State nursing license.
Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Obtain certification in the department-specific area within the first year of the position.

Nice To Haves

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
Two years of work experience in a department-specific area preferred.
One year of supervisory or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assure delivery of quality department and clinical services in accordance with hospital and regulatory/accreditation standards.
Implement daily unit operations according to the care delivery model, making timely adjustments to align patient needs with unit resources.
Assist the Manager with overall department operations, including developing goals and objectives consistent with Adventist HealthCare’s mission and strategic plan, managing personnel, preparing and monitoring budgets, and maintaining budget accountability.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to assure optimum age-appropriate patient care.
Promote cohesive work teams and support intra- and inter-disciplinary teamwork within the department and organization.
Participate in developing evidence-based standards of care for the clinical area of responsibility.
Ensure adherence to standards of care defined by professional and regulatory organizations and maintain knowledge of structural standards.
Report significant events—including near misses, adverse events, patient or family complaints, and situations affecting safe patient-centered care—in a timely manner, and communicate events and resolutions to the department clinical manager.
Demonstrate positive customer service, foster positive employee relations, and ensure staff adherence to Customer Service Behavioral Standards.
Serve as a positive professional role model, coach, mentor, problem solver, and resource for staff and peers.
Execute other duties as required.
