In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations and provides direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises care provided by staff to ensure the delivery of safe and quality patient care on the unit and to ensure appropriate standards of professional nursing practice are maintained in the clinical setting. They maintain high visibility to patients/families and staff on the unit, primarily on off-shifts, and resolve problems as needed. This role performs a variety of administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. The role serves in a direct patient care capacity greater than 50% of the time. Prisma Health Richland Hospital's Surgical Trauma Unit is a 50-bed medical-surgical unit primarily geared towards adult patients requiring care after experiencing traumatic injury typically requiring surgical intervention. The standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed. The unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring for up to 23 patients. Patients are hemodynamically stable and may include those with injuries related to gunshot wounds or other penetrating injury, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls.
