About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a full-time nursing position at the VA Boston Healthcare System, with duties at the West Roxbury and Brockton campuses. The ANM supports the Nurse Manager with supervisory responsibilities and accountability for the 24/7 operation of designated units, and provides coverage for other ANMs as needed. This role supports oversight of the Vascular Access and Patient Transport Teams at both campuses and the Nursing Assistant (NA) Float Team. The ANM provides direction and supervision for staff orientation, training, development, and performance evaluation. Serving as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, the ANM provides team leadership and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to address barriers and implement evidence-based programs and processes. The position supports daily operations, staffing, competency validation, staff development, and quality improvement across the teams. It may include direct clinical coverage to meet patient-care and operational needs, including high-volume IV placement and phlebotomy services. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of Infusion Nurses Society (INS) Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice and their application to safe, evidence-based vascular access care. The ANM promotes ethical decision-making, accountability, culturally competent care, and high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. The role builds relationships across the care continuum and contributes to care-delivery models and environmental design to support evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. The ANM ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, aligns clinical objectives with organizational strategy, participates in strategy planning and execution, and promotes an inclusive workplace that values diversity. The position is scheduled for day shift, with flexible hours; compressed or flexible scheduling may be available. Ad-hoc telework is available, but this is not a virtual position. Travel to other VA campuses and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics may be required. Relocation and recruitment incentives and permanent change of station are not authorized.
