About The Position

Academy Sports + Outdoors is seeking a motivated Assistant Merchant to support multiple buyers and assistant buyers. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate purchase orders, item data, and key details. The position involves entering, revising, and tracking import and domestic purchase orders while adhering to various deadlines. The work ensures that products are set up correctly and ready for distribution. The Assistant Merchant will handle UPC retrieval and maintenance, item setup for various product types, and the creation/revision of item and location lists. Maintaining accurate cost information and supporting cost changes are also key responsibilities, along with assisting with expense report processing and other administrative tasks to support the merchant organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to stay organized, pay close attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Strong time management skills with experience managing multiple projects and a large volume of work
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to meet and exceed role expectations under minimal direction and supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals at various levels, both internal and external
  • A team-first attitude; while your core duties are your priority, you're happy to step in wherever you're needed
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
  • Ability to adhere to company policies and professional standards

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in business administration or a similar field of study preferred
  • 1+ years of merchant support and/or retail experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support multiple buyers and assistant buyers by keeping purchase orders, item data, and key details accurate and up to date.
  • Enter, revise, and track import and domestic purchase orders, meeting department, vendor, seasonal, and import deadlines.
  • Handle UPC retrieval and maintenance.
  • Perform item setup for import, domestic, and private label products.
  • Create and revise item and location lists.
  • Maintain accurate cost information and support item cost changes.
  • Support the team with expense report processing and other administrative tasks.
