Assistant Mechanical Superintendent - Mission Critical
About The Position
Big-D Mission Critical is looking for an Assistant Mechanical Superintendent. The Assistant Mechanical Superintendent supports the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical construction activities on complex data center projects. Working closely with the Mechanical Superintendent, this role helps oversee field operations, subcontractor performance, safety, quality, and schedule adherence for critical mechanical systems. The ideal candidate has experience with HVAC, piping, plumbing, and commissioning support within large commercial or mission-critical construction environments. This position is based in Reno, NV.
Requirements
- Experience supporting the installation of HVAC, chilled water, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems on commercial or data center projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction sequencing.
- Ability to coordinate subcontractors and support daily field operations.
- Knowledge of construction safety requirements and quality control processes.
- Familiarity with commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with scheduling, work planning, and tracking project progress.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, trade partners, engineers, and owners in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Ability to proactively plan and identify risks to meet or exceed the deadline while meeting the safety requirements, productivity goals, sustainability goals and quality.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the workplace.
- Ability to read, understand, and red-line work orders, budget, change orders, safety standards, plans specifications, shop drawings, submittals, manufacturer’s literature.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, memos, blue prints, contract documents and specifications, and CPM schedules.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Support on mechanical scopes on data center projects
- Support the safety, quality, schedule, production, logistics and coordination
- Represents the company in meetings and interfaces with all project stakeholders
- Coordinates and directs all subcontractor and vendors
- Works with the project team to establish goals and develop accountability
- Assumes responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project
- Verifies to ensure subcontractor completes the assigned scope of work
- Seeks to learn changes in the industry
