About The Position

The Assistant Manager supports and consults with the Store Manager on the store’s operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for achieving store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service, assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent, and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps manage store assets, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and departmental performance. They guide employees and customers, maintain service quality, communicate inventory movement and customer trends to the Store Manager, and help protect company assets and financial information through effective internal controls. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager supervises employees, including interviewing and training, planning and directing work, and resolving problems. The position is hourly, non-exempt, and based at the Nogales, Arizona (Mariposa Mall) store.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and overall store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store and supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell the company’s services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Interview and train employees, plan and assign work, direct employees, and resolve problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
