The Assistant Manager is responsible for everything that happens during their shift and works toward company goals, including controlling inventory, labor, and cash costs while providing excellent customer service. The role sets an example by following company policies and procedures and holding team members accountable for doing the same. The position is suited to candidates with little or no management experience as well as seasoned managers; manager trainees receive paid training and learn at their own pace through videos, coaching guides, quizzes, and on-the-job training. The role contributes to store profitability and team performance by helping staff, train, and lead a team; staying current on hiring and marketing practices; tracking food cost variance; meeting and scheduling labor requirements; and attending and holding team meetings. The position may offer advancement opportunities from Assistant Manager to General Manager, District Manager, franchisee, or Manager of Corporate Operations. Work takes place in a fast-paced store environment and may involve standing for most tasks, frequent walking, handling food and supplies, and using store equipment. Conditions can include temperatures from 33 degrees in the cooler to 90 degrees or higher in some work areas, sudden temperature changes, food-related odors and fumes, cornmeal dust, confined spaces, hot surfaces and products, sharp edges, and moving mechanical parts. Physical tasks may include lifting deliveries weighing up to 50 pounds, carrying products, pushing or pulling trays and trash cans, occasional climbing, bending, crouching, squatting, and continuous reaching and hand use.
