About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department, adherence to the visual manual and other company standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The position supports asset protection, staffing, inventory awareness, sales and profitability, merchandising, and day-to-day store execution. It also supervises employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including assigning and directing work, training staff, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store when the Store Manager is absent.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including helping customers as they enter and assisting multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards, including those in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and learn the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
