About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager is passionate about providing outstanding customer service and promoting merchandise. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps oversee store assets, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and customer service. The position also supports recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel, guides employees and customers across departments, and performs general administrative duties. Supervisory duties apply in the Store Manager’s absence and include interviewing and training employees, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and overall store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability in all departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers upon entry and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing employees, and resolving problems.
