About The Position

The Assistant Manager supports and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to achieve store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department, adherence to company policies and visual standards, and a strong focus on customer service and promoting merchandise. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained to perform Store Manager responsibilities. The position also assists with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; monitors inventory, sales statistics, and expenses; directs staff in completing departmental responsibilities; and keeps the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends. The Assistant Manager supervises employees when the Store Manager is absent, including interviewing and training, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and maintain focus on goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support department profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by maintaining accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks.
Perform general administrative duties and train in Store Manager responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
