About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for accomplishing store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager is committed to outstanding customer service and promoting store merchandise. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps control company assets, supports departmental and store planning, and contributes to recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel. The role monitors inventory, sales statistics, expenses, inventory movement, and customer trends to support profitability and effective operations. It also includes directing staff, maintaining service standards, performing administrative duties, and protecting company assets and financial information through effective internal controls.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support departmental profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in operations, personnel, visual presentation, and customer service materials.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
