About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to achieve store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position also supports personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; guides employees and customers across departments; monitors inventory, sales statistics, expenses, and customer trends; directs staff in completing departmental responsibilities; and helps protect company assets and financial information. Supervisory duties apply in the Store Manager’s absence and include interviewing and training employees, planning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service and provide assistance to customers, including during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards in applicable manuals and communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by supporting accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing and training employees, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
