About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on the store’s overall operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department, adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise promotion. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control in the Store Manager’s absence and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The position supports store asset management, sales and merchandising activities, inventory awareness, personnel recruiting and training, and the achievement of departmental and store goals. It also supervises employees when the Store Manager is absent and carries out related supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service and provide assistance to customers, including during peak periods.
Promote and sell the company’s services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are effective and accurate, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
When the Store Manager is absent, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and directing work, assigning tasks, and resolving problems.
