About The Position

This is a Full-time non-union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). The Assistant Manager Operations will train, develop, and supervise support staff, relief staff, and security staff. This role oversees program service delivery and coordination, including supporting staff and client issues, liaising with Central Intake, and following up with facility management. The position involves maintaining work schedules, ensuring proper coverage and staffing, and keeping incident reports and documentation up to date. It also supports the hiring and training of new staff, collaborates with other Assistant Managers and the Manager for smooth daily operations and clear communication, and coordinates/supports service delivery to participants. The role requires reviewing and ensuring files and documentation are current in databases, supporting and leading staff in managing crises, and ensuring compliance with operational policies, procedures, and Temporary Reception Center Standards. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will work with the team on developing and updating Reception Center policies and will be on call for staff emergencies.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent and related management experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of full-time experience working in a Reception Centre, Shelter, Refugee Reception Program, Housing Program, or other congregate care/community-based setting, supporting individuals experiencing psychological, physical, emotional, housing, settlement, or environmental challenges, including at least one (1) year of experience supervising programs and staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Toronto Shelter or Reception Centre Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing and evaluating programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in issues facing people experiencing homelessness.
  • Well-developed organizational, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Excel and email is essential.
  • Experience in entering and monitoring data in an internet-based database.
  • Possession of a valid First Aid/CPR training certificate is required.
  • Possession of a valid Naloxone training certificate is required.
  • Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within past 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the center and its staff are in compliance with operational policies and procedures and Temporary Reception Center Standards.
  • Works with team on developing and updating Reception Center policies.
  • Always be available on call for staff emergencies.
