The Assistant Manager of Store Operations is responsible for supervising and coordinating employee activities to ensure customer needs are met. This role involves maintaining a positive atmosphere, providing excellent customer service, and upholding the Hy-Vee culture of honesty, integrity, and friendliness. The Assistant Manager also plays a key role in training employees, managing employee issues, coordinating disciplinary procedures, and assisting with pricing, promotions, and display management. They are responsible for ensuring store standards for customer service, employee relations, and departmental profitability are met, as well as overseeing building maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness. The position requires proficiency in store technology, assistance with labor scheduling, and evaluation of employee performance. Additionally, the Assistant Manager trains and enforces safety procedures, directs merchandise ordering, and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. Secondary duties include determining employee motivational needs, recruiting and interviewing applicants, staying current with market trends, providing continuous education to employees, recommending merchandise changes, pursuing retail educational opportunities, assisting in all store areas as needed, and working with department heads on various operational aspects. The role also involves selling merchandise, handling cash registers, and performing other related duties.
