This role supervises and coordinates the activities of employees, ensuring customer needs are met. The Assistant Manager is accountable and reports to the District Store Director and Store Manager, and supervises all positions except those designated by the Store Director. The position is responsible for maintaining a positive attitude, creating an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork, and providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. This includes greeting customers, learning their names, assisting them with their needs, and answering the phone promptly. The role is responsible for upholding Hy-Vee's core values of honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring for customers and employees. This involves demonstrating sincerity, respect, high ethics, and morals, being dedicated to providing the best products and values, sharing information, being fair, showing dignity, and contributing to the company's improvement and growth. The Assistant Manager oversees employee training, handles employee issues, and coordinates disciplinary procedures. They assist management in determining pricing and sales strategies, determine the placement of ad and promotional displays, and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer and store demands and profitability. The role ensures store standards for customer service, employee relations, and departmental profitability are met, and ensures compliance with accounting procedures. They oversee building/ground maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness, and are proficient in using all hardware and software technology in the store. The Assistant Manager assists in forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule, evaluates employee performance to recommend personnel actions, and trains and enforces safety procedures. They direct the ordering of merchandise, coordinate employee compliance with policies and laws, and assist with replenishing shelf product and constructing displays. They confer with employees to solve problems affecting job duties and productivity, adhere to company policies, and report to work as scheduled. Secondary duties include determining employee motivational needs, recruiting and interviewing applicants, staying current with market trends, providing continuous education to employees, recommending merchandise changes, pursuing retail educational opportunities, assisting in all store areas as needed, and working with department heads on various operational aspects. The role also involves selling merchandise, handling cash registers, and performing other related duties.
