This role supervises and coordinates the activities of employees, ensuring that customer’s needs are met. The Assistant Manager is accountable and reports to the District Store Director and Store Manager, and has supervisory responsibility over all positions except those designated by the Store Director. The position requires a positive attitude, creating an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork. It involves providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, learning customer names, and assisting customers with various needs. The role is responsible for upholding Hy-Vee's core values of honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring. This includes overseeing training, handling employee issues, coordinating disciplinary procedures, and assisting management with pricing and display strategies. The Assistant Manager ensures store standards for customer service, employee relations, and departmental profitability are met, while also overseeing building maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness. Proficiency with store hardware and software technology is required, along with assisting in labor scheduling, evaluating employee performance, and enforcing safety procedures. The role also directs merchandise ordering, ensures compliance with policies and procedures, and assists with merchandising and display construction. Secondary duties include determining employee motivational needs, recruiting and interviewing applicants, staying current with market trends, and providing continuous education for employees. The Assistant Manager may also assist in all areas of the store as needed, work with department heads on various issues, sell merchandise to employees, and handle cash registers.
