About The Position

The Assistant Manager of Health Wellness Home helps lead store operations and supports a team focused on delivering an exceptional customer experience. The role sets the tone for the area, models Hy-Vee’s values of honesty, integrity, and genuine care, and ensures departments operate effectively. It is a fast-paced retail leadership role involving customer service, employee supervision and development, merchandising, labor planning, safety, and operational compliance.

The position reports to and receives direction from the Store Director and Store Manager. It is accountable for all positions except those listed above or as designated by the Store Manager. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent. One or more years of retail experience, including performing Service Manager duties, is preferred. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

• Ability to lead and motivate a team across multiple departments in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Ability to solve practical problems and make sound decisions involving a variety of variables.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Clear written and verbal communication with customers, employees, and vendors.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

• One or more years of retail experience, including performing the duties of a Service Manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service and help make each customer visit positive.
• Supervise and coordinate employees across departments, ensuring customer service, employee relations, and profitability standards are met.
• Oversee employee training, address employee issues, and coordinate disciplinary procedures as needed.
• Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions, including promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
• Determine locations for advertising and promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer and store demands.
• Assist with forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule within Store Manager guidelines.
• Oversee building and grounds maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness according to store and company guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with store accounting procedures and report potential problems.
• Direct merchandise ordering in assigned areas and recommend product additions, deletions, and shelf allocations.
• Work with department heads on schedules, labor, purchasing, and merchandising to meet departmental goals.
• Train employees on safety procedures and enforce them; complete customer accident forms and first reports of injury; assign duties according to restrictions.
• Assist with replenishing products and designing and constructing displays.
• Recruit and interview applicants and help coordinate orientations.
• Operate cash registers and process inter-store transfers as needed.
• Handle confidential information, including pricing, sales reports, and wages, with discretion.
• Stay current on market trends, new products, equipment, and merchandising techniques.
• Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
• Assist throughout the store and take on special projects as required.
