About The Position

Zeal Credit Union is seeking an inspiring, growth-oriented leader for an onsite Assistant Manager of Consumer Lending role. This position serves as a key operational leader and mentor, focusing on lending optimization, helping members achieve financial goals, developing the team, and positively impacting the community. The role involves shaping the department's future, partnering with the VP of Lending, leading a team, and driving responsible growth and service excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in consumer lending, underwriting, or loan operations, including credit decisioning.
  • 3+ years supervising teams with a proven track record of developing employee performance.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong knowledge of federal/state laws, underwriting principles, and operational controls.
  • Deep understanding of loan origination, pricing, processing, funding, and indirect lending.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and lending-related software (LOS, reporting, data-processing).
  • Ability to interpret lending reports, identify trend root causes, and provide business recommendations.
  • Skilled at evaluating workflows, implementing operational changes, and measuring outcomes.
  • Experience supporting internal/external audits, regulatory exams, and corrective actions.
  • Ability to build partnerships with auto dealerships, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities, tight deadlines, and business relationships simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to balance growth, risk, compliance, and member experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for presenting complex data clearly.
  • Ability to work independently, take accountability for outcomes, and recommend proactive solutions.
  • Commitment to staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a vital operational and strategic leader responsible for driving the growth, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of the department.
  • Coach and develop the lending team.
  • Streamline workflows.
  • Maintain strong relationships with cross-functional departments, auto dealerships, and third-party vendors.
  • Analyze performance metrics to provide strategic recommendations on products, budgeting, and competitive positioning to the VP of Lending.
  • Protect the institution's assets by enforcing strict underwriting guidelines.
  • Spearhead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage quality control and audit readiness.
