Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time position position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. These ranges reflect what BNSF Railway reasonably expects to pay for this position, based on the role’s level, scope, and responsibilities. Final compensation and position level will be determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package. This position will act as a key liaison between Payroll and Budgets and will have forecasting and planning responsibility for various areas primarily associated with payroll-related costs and vacation accounting, with a strong focus on Business Partnering and creating value in areas served. Daily work is conducted in an indoor office environment. Relocation assistance may be available based on business need. Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (Accounting or Finance preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in finance-related field, as applicable
  • Self-starter, have the ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks and demonstrate the ability to organize team efforts to accomplish common goals.
  • This position needs to positively contribute to a high morale/high-performance culture.
  • Working knowledge of financial statements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Work independently, including task coordination and decision making, as well as in a team environment
  • Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Active CPA license
  • Past experience in public accounting firm
  • Knowledge of SAP

Responsibilities

  • Maintain ownership of the models used for plan, forecast and recording of BNSF’s monthly payroll-related costs and vacation accrual
  • Interact with other teams within Finance such as Payroll and Budget teams as well as outside of Finance such as Human Resources, Claims and Labor Relations.
  • Perform month-end closing processes for BNSF and subsidiaries, including analysis of income statement, balance sheet and cash flow activity
  • Analyze data to understand trends and the corresponding financial impact and make appropriate recommendations to team leaders and business partners
  • Interact with Sr. Management, other departments, and outside parties in response to questions and request for information as they relate to payroll, vacation and headcount
  • Forecasting and planning of income statement and balance sheet accounts, including preparation of monthly account reconciliations
