This role provides continuity in leadership within the Maintenance Manager's absence. The Assistant Maintenance Manager will offer additional leadership and interaction with all shift supervisors, including utility and service writers. This position involves skills assessment of current staff, direct interaction with the corporate training team, and identifying/developing training curriculum based on these assessments. The role includes monitoring employee development progress and future training needs, fostering direct communication across all shifts, and performing root cause analysis on road calls to identify corrective actions for continuous improvement. Accountability extends to ensuring service peak availability requirements and quality inspections are met on the 2nd and 3rd shifts. This includes managing scheduling, diagnosing issues, prioritizing job assignments, monitoring estimated repair times, and ensuring all maintenance administrative requirements are managed accurately and timely for these shifts. Safety is paramount, ensuring adherence to all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures, compliance with safety training, and inspection/availability of safety equipment and tooling. The role also involves interacting with client personnel during second and third shifts, serving as a member of the Management Team, participating in client meetings, policy/planning development, and assuring departmental conformance to contractual requirements. This includes identifying and monitoring contractual KPIs and communicating performance and improvement plans regularly with supervisors and staff. Fleet management responsibilities include meeting out-of-service targets on 2nd and 3rd shifts, managing vehicle/parts warranty, and supporting third-party audits. The role also plans, directs, and ensures compliance with scheduled/periodic inspections of vehicles, providing input for revisions based on operational needs, and ensuring QA requirements are met. People management includes providing leadership and direction to 2nd and 3rd shift staff, coordinating work, prioritizing assignments, conducting performance evaluations, making hiring/termination/disciplinary decisions, and identifying/scheduling training needs in coordination with the Corporate Training Team. Communication is key, ensuring open and transparent communication with staff, providing frequent updates to operations/dispatch and maintenance/utility supervision, and inputting on union-related issues. Facility/equipment responsibilities include providing input on facility projects, organizing and directing maintenance and repair of equipment, facilities, and grounds, and managing inspections. Material/vendor interactions occur as needed, monitoring vehicles waiting for parts, ensuring warranty/core parts are returned, and securing parts inventory. Data management includes directing and monitoring service writers and ensuring CMMS operating systems are managed properly and updated in real-time. Workshop process management involves ensuring KIHM compliance, monitoring production plan progress, reviewing rescheduled repairs, performing root cause analysis on road failures, assigning jobs based on skillset, conducting Gemba Walks, monitoring/assisting with troubleshooting, establishing standard repair times, performing QA inspections, and managing compliance with scheduled maintenance and detailing. Driver inspection reports are managed and prioritized daily.
