About The Position

The Assistant, Kindergarten Bachelor’s Degree Level, provides academic, socio-emotional, and/or behavioral support under the direction of the kindergarten teacher. The assistant performs instructional and supervisory responsibilities while working with students individually, in small groups, or as a whole group. The position reports to and is evaluated by the principal and kindergarten teachers.

District employees are expected to maintain regular and predictable attendance, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, act with civility and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills needed to perform their duties. The responsibilities listed are not exhaustive and may change according to district needs.

Requirements

• Experience working with young children is preferred.
• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence and present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.
• Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform these operations using units of American money and measurements of weight, volume, and distance.
• Use common-sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Demonstrate adaptability, cooperation, dependability, attendance, punctuality, and appropriate personal appearance.
• Basic computer skills are preferred.
• Meet the physical demands of standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, talking, hearing, reaching overhead, and lifting up to 55 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials for instruction.
• Provide planning time for teachers, including time for outdoor activities, rhythm activities, and story time.
• Provide lunchroom assistance.
• Supervise school-based routines such as dismissal and restroom routines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
