About The Position

The Crisis and Disaster Management (CDM) Program at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) is seeking to hire a non-tenure-track instructor to join its faculty, with a start date in January 2027. This role involves teaching crisis and disaster management courses and serving as the Program Coordinator. The Program is housed within the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies and offers courses entirely online, serving approximately 70 undergraduate majors. UCM is a public regional comprehensive institution with a long-standing Crisis and Disaster Management program. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, scheduling adjuncts and classes, fostering disciplinary contacts, recruiting students, and assessing course outcomes. Faculty are expected to provide student-centered, high-quality education, support student success through teaching and advising, maintain collegiality, communicate effectively, and engage in service and professional development. This includes being available to students and colleagues, preparing and delivering high-quality instruction in various formats, organizing courses for engagement, assisting with scheduling, complying with academic standards, staying current with technology, holding office hours, and participating in assessments and curriculum modifications. Professional development is encouraged through conference presentations and professional organization involvement. Service expectations include attending meetings, committee work, assisting with student recruitment, and participating in university ceremonies. Effective and timely communication with students and colleagues is essential, fostering a collegial atmosphere and adhering to university guidelines for responsiveness.

Requirements

• A minimum of a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Crisis and Disaster Management, Emergency Management, or a closely related field is required.
• A minimum of three years of professional experience is required.
• Effective communication in both spoken and written English is required.
• Resume/Vita should support the candidate’s ability to teach courses in an online environment (i.e., Brightspace) in the areas of crisis and disaster management, business continuity, emergency management, emergency services, and other related courses required.
• Must possess valid US work authorization at the time of hire.

• Assist department chairs with scheduling of classes that meet the needs of students.
• Comply with departmental, college, and university standards concerning the academic quality and integrity of their classes.
• Keep current in their use of technology by attending university training sessions and other professional development opportunities.
• Be available to meet students outside the classroom by scheduling office hours in both physical and electronic formats, including in-person and virtual office hours, before or after classes.
• Assist with department and college assessments and be proactive in making curriculum modifications based on assessment feedback.
• Present work at local/state/regional/national conferences.
• Maintain active membership and/or office holding in professional organizations at the local/state/regional/national level.
• Attend department/college/university meetings.
• Engage in committee work that will advance the department/college/institution.
• Assist with student recruitment.
• Participate in graduation and convocation ceremonies.
• Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with students and colleagues at all levels of the institution.
• Cultivate a collegial atmosphere when interacting with other faculty/staff within their own department, the college, and the university.
• Be responsive and timely, responding to student phone calls and email messages within university guidelines.
