About The Position

The Marine and Coastal Science Program (MACS) at Western Washington University (WWU) maintains a vacancy pool for qualified individuals interested in temporary, non-tenure track teaching positions. These positions are typically part-time, with occasional opportunities for full-term appointments, and may become available throughout the academic year and summer session. Positions are usually filled on a quarterly basis. This role is at the rank of Instructor for the duration of assigned courses and/or labs, with no expectation of continued employment. The instructor is expected to be an exemplary teacher, current in the discipline, actively engage students in learning (including discussion, writing, and analysis), provide feedback on coursework and examinations, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours. Student course evaluations are required, and these evaluations must be made available for annual review by the MACS director, academic director, and faculty.

Requirements

  • Masters or PhD in a related field, or commensurate experience.
  • Experience teaching university-level courses.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach university-level courses and/or labs within the Marine and Coastal Science Program.
  • Be current in the discipline.
  • Actively engage students in their own learning, including discussion, writing, and analysis.
  • Provide students with feedback on their course work and examinations.
  • Be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Ensure students evaluate the course(s) using standard University evaluation forms.
  • Make student evaluations available to the MACS director, academic director, and faculty for annual review.
