About The Position

The Management Communication Center in the Warrington College of Business invites applications for full-time Assistant-In Teaching faculty with a focus on business writing. These Assistant-In Teaching faculty will staff breakout sections of the core undergraduate course, GEB2216, Professional Writing, under the direct supervision of the course’s lead instructors. The lead instructor creates the curriculum, teaches a weekly lecture, and manages the Assistant-In Teaching faculty. The Assistant-In Teaching position is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure accruing faculty position with a Fall 2026 start preferred. It is renewable annually based on satisfactory performance evaluations, funding, and fit with the Center. It offers potential opportunities for compensated teaching in the summer and comes with full benefits. Candidates must have flexible schedules and be able to teach in the mornings, afternoon, and/or evenings. Additionally, Assistant-In Teaching faculty are expected to contribute service to the Management Communication Center and maintain professional qualifications by participating in workshops, webinars, and other professional development activities. Ideal candidates will support the established aims of the Assistant-In team while bringing new ideas and a fresh perspective to the curriculum. Support will be provided, including administrative assistance, workspace, computers, and other resources. To encourage and facilitate their professional development, Assistant-In Teaching faculty at the University of Florida are eligible for promotion through the ranks of Assistant-In Teaching, Associate-In Teaching, and Senior Associate-In Teaching.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in an appropriate area (Communication, English, etc.)
  • Master’s degree or higher in an unrelated area with a bachelor’s degree in appropriate area and relevant training or experience in appropriate area
  • Teaching experience in business writing at the college level

Responsibilities

  • Teaching/staffing four breakout sections per semester; each breakout section meets for one 50-minute class period twice a week
  • Grading students’ assignments and providing them with prompt, high-quality feedback
  • Coaching students one-on-one in office hours
  • Working with standardized curriculum developed by the lead instructor for the course
  • Following the direction of the lead instructor, including grading/feedback guides, curriculum, breakout section lesson plans, course policies, etc.
  • Supporting and assisting the lead instructor with the course
  • Contribute service to the Management Communication Center
  • Maintain professional qualifications by participating in workshops, webinars, and other professional development activities
