About The Position

Under the direction of the Child Care Director, the Assistant Group Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the implementation of daily program activities in accordance with the goals of the YMCA and the regulations of the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Welfare. Requirements

  • 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or general education diploma
  • Two years’ experience working with children
  • Documentation of a current medical statement and TB skin test must be submitted prior to the start of employment and every two years, thereafter.
  • Submit to state and FBI criminal background clearance checks and PA child abuse history clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including being able to implement emergency procedures.
  • Assist in planning and executing the program assuring that the program provided meets the highest quality standards. Develop and carry out weekly lesson plans and snack menu.
  • Responsible for completing your time card on a daily basis.
  • Interact positively with the children daily, displaying the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all program activities.
  • Perform specific tasks related to the daily operation of the child care site such as administering small group activities, arts and crafts preparation, meal service, positive discipline strategies.
  • Assist in reviewing the daily attendance records and recording of documentation for appropriate billings.
  • Assist in maintenance of all children’s and staff files.
  • Effectively communicate with parent, verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain appearance of the program area, ensuring a high quality of supplies, equipment and materials. Light maintenance tasks such as sweeping, cleaning tables, and garbage removal are also expected.
  • Document attendance, incidents, accident reports, CACFP meal counts, etc. in compliance with state licensing requirements.
  • Work as a team with other child care staff.
  • Assist Child Care Center Director in conducting the child care program in accordance with the daily schedule and structure as developed.
  • All staff must attend 6 training hours within the first year of employment with the continuation of 6 hours annually thereafter. In addition, they must attend any meeting sponsored by the YMCA which has been denoted as “mandatory.”
  • Assist in the planning of parent-child events and other events related to your program.
  • Participate in YMCA Volunteer programs such United Way.
  • Continue professional development through community involvement; reading; and further education.
  • Carry out additional assignments and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • This job description may not be all-inclusive and duties may be modified when deemed appropriate by the CEO. Employees are expected to perform all other duties as assigned and directed by the CEO.
